Academic Advisor

Lori Collins is an Academic Advisor for the General Studies degree program at IU Kokomo. She completed her AGS in 1998 and was hired for her current position after completing her BGS in 2001. She also completed her MS in Adult Education in May 2004. She has a minor in Information Systems and after completing her MS was able to teach two courses at IUK: one for returning adult students who have been out of school for awhile and an “Introduction to Computers and Their Use.” Her advice to General Studies students, “Don’t think of their degree as just ‘a General degree.’ It is a degree that offers many opportunities that they would not have otherwise. It is all in how they present it and themselves to the prospective employers.” She originally selected General Studies because she was an adult student and had many hours already completed and little time to take classes. She was able to test out of some classes by taking DANTES tests and was able to use the CPS (Certified Professional Secretary) exam for credit.
